As long as we're talking about words, it should be noted in the winegeek community that the French word "salut" means "hi" or "bye" (much like "aloha"). It does not mean "health" or have anything to do with making a toast when drinking.

I have seen this aberrant use more than once and it irks me.

Some Catalan points here:

The full greeting is: Salut i força al canut!

It seems in the Middle Ages it meant something like 'good health and good fortune!", but the modern interpretation is "good health and strength in your balls!"
