Clos Roche Blanche Cot and Pergole Torte

I decided to open a 2009 CRB Gamay and accidentally pulled a Cot. Can't say I regret it much as the wine was stunning. Perfect purity, balance and power. Wow.

The 1999 Montevertine Pergole Torte on first pour had a lovely nose but seemed a little tired on the palate. But with some air it became s soft, lovely melange of flavors. A wine of many charms.

I still think fondly of that birthday jeebus long ago when Luca and Joe introduced me to Montevertine.

What is the story with CRB now? They actually reduced their vineyards a year or two ago (or three or four) so now have what exactly?

For my tastes, their best wine has always been their Cot.

The Cot is therefore drink or hold? This is a bottle I think you actually persuaded me to buy.

Depends on how much you have.

If it's more than one I'll depart from my usual recommendation and suggest trying one now. The ripeness of the vintage is showing to considerable advantage in the wine now.

Agreed. I didn't see any 2010 show up but maybe I missed it?

And while we're on the subject of 2010 a bottle of croix Boisee seemed to be clamping down earlier this week. Better in day two.

I'd follow this advice, but can't find them now among the disorderly boxes in my cellar. Perhaps a project for next weekend. Opened an 05 de Villaine Digoine instead, which was pretty great, I dare say.

The 2011 harvest report on the LDM site mentions picking the cot but does not say what will become of it.

One can only hope that some of it finds it's way into the fabled Côt/Malbec blend.

The Montevertine was even nicer than Jay said.
We opened one of these last night and it was indeed delicious.
It seemed composed and developed but I did not find it tired.
