Anyone tried the Colet Navazos Cava yet?

I have one on deck for 8/20 and was curious what to expect. I hadn't known any were in the country until I spotted it on Sunday at Wine Library.

I drank the '09 extra brut a couple of months ago. It was very fresh, almost austerely dry, and had a nice core of richness down the middle. I enjoyed it very much, although there is other fizz I'd rather drink at the (US) price point.
I have a bottle of the '08 reserva on deck for some upcoming weekend.

It's not a Cava - Colet quit the appellation, as several other producers have, in disagreement with its policies, and it's now a sparkling Penedés DO. There are two Colet Navazos, the regular one, xarel-lo based, and a Reserva, chardonnay based. The Equipo Navazos contribution lies in little details like adding 'flor' yeasts from Jerez for the second fermentation or using old sweet sherries as 'liqueur d'expédition'. I prefer the regular, xarel-lo based myself. These are not the most ethereal bubblies ever, but they're down to earth and very honest.

The one that was available here was one of the Chardonnay based bottlings (the other did sound more interesting). I thought it said Cava on the label but maybe it was just on the shelf. I can check when I get home.

In any case I applaud their efforts to find new revenue streams for producers. Hopefully the quality is there so the brand does not get too diluted.

It definitely does not say Cava on the label, so it was just the shelf label that had the incorrect information. Maybe I'll email Ian.
