Another fine dinner at Soul Flavors.
No paper so I took very sparse notes on my iPad. Hopefully others will fill in with their impressions.
2009 Meulenhof Erdener Treppchen Alte Reben Riesling Spatlese - beautiful floral nose, nearly as lovely on the palate, sweet, balanced, soft but intense citrus flavors. Why haven't I been buying Meulenhof? Congenital idiocy would be the logical answer if I didn't have the defense that I think this is the first one I've tried.
2006 Barthod Chambolle Musigny 'Veroilles' (Magnum) - this opened very slowly over the course of the evening. Rather shut down and tart at first it got better and better showing a very pretty nose and beautiful crushed strawberries by the end of the evening. Betting it would have been even better the next day but it was pretty wonderful anyway.
2010 Roty Marsannay Ouzeloy - Beautiful young Burgundy. His Marsannays have everything I like about Roty but without all the oak (which admittedly integrates with time). I think I need to lay down a bottle or two of this.
2011 Chidaine Baudoin
2011 Chidaine Argiles - I preferred the Argiles but while I enjoyed both I wasn't returning to them the way I did several other wines.
2012 Baudry Granges - Fresh and fruity
2005 Baudry Guillot - Tight and tannic. With air, very enjoyable in a sligthly masochistic way, red fruit and tannins. Melissa (who loved it) said "candied violets in a salad". I'll hold my '05 Chinon a bit longer but I'd love this with a fatty rib eye.
2011 Chidaine P P Y P - very lactic. Yogurty, diacetyl notes. I can't drink it.
1990 Amiot-Servelle Chambolle Musigny Derriere La Grange - Lovely complex delicate nose. A bit tobaccoey on the palate but still has a fragile beauty that I enjoy very much. After about an hour or two it fell apart showing 1990 stewed fruit notes. Drink quickly and you'll have no problem.
2009 Dageneau Silex - Dageneau has never been my thing and this bottle did nothing to change that opinion.
2005 Schaefer Frolich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spatlese - good, but not a patch on the Meulenhof. Pass the Erdener Treppchen please!
2007 Marie Noelle Ledru Ambonnay Champagne - not my favorite
1976 Schloss Reinhartshausen Httenheimer Wisselbrunnen Riesling Auslese - Hauntingly beautiful nose, wonderful crystalline wine. I'm trying to think of a complimentary way to use the word skeletal as it seemed like everything extraneous had melted away leaving only the beauty.
I find I don't have a note on my Barbadillo VORS Oloroso Sec. Well, I'll drink it again and maybe someone else has a comment.
Very nice seeing everyone and meeting Bob for the first time!
