Vif Seattle

I scurried my way up there after work, chagrin and chastened, bettered by visitors and monkeys.

I sweated my way up Fremont Ave on the old Gitane TdF (1970, full 531 frame) and low and behold, in the old Herfy's, is Shawn Mead behind the counter. Whoa.

I find out lots of things about Vif. Like, Lauren Feldman in the kitchen, making awesome things. Like breakfast. Like, super artisan coffee. Like, super insanely cool.

And it gets better. Did you all know the Walrus and the Carpenter has a food truck? Did you know that every other Friday it sits in the Vif parking lot? OMG people!!!!

And, best of all, there is wine there that I am pretty sure is the only place it's available west of Chambers Street. 3L's of Raisin Gaulois? Sure. Noella Morintin? Of course. LP Terre de Pierre? Why not.

All 1/4 mile from our house. Yikes!

In the pictures on the website I thought I spotted Texier Cotes du Rhone, not the Brezeme but the plain old CdR rouge that has white grapes blended in. Can you confirm?

I do love that wine.

Saw that in town the other day Marc, can't remember where...Old World? (Market on Lakeway is stocking Pergaud). I know of a couple places that stock it regularly in Seattle, Madison Market for one.

The 2010 was all grenache. It was fantastic, although reports out of NY spoke of issues, none of my 2+ cases were any less than delicious.

Yep, awesome sauce. Can't wait to see it in person.

It was the first grenache I've loved in years. Not that I go out of my way to taste.

Well it's a couple miles from my house, but still the nearest wine shop. Yes they took over Herfy's a greasy burger joint, mercifully deceased.

The selection is still small, but Shawn told me she is planning on expanding a fair amount.
She has both the Texier CdRs - 2011 Rouge $16 and 2012 Blanc $17. Picked up a bottle of each. Also 2011 Brun Morgon $18, Pepiere Cot $12.

$75 for a magnum of Chidaine sparkling Montlouis was a little high to me, but welcome to WA wine retailing.

A wonderful addition to the Seattle wine scene - thanks for sharing. In time our envy of NYC and SF wine retailing may fade.

Vif is a very nice place. You locals are lucky. Had an excellent snack, good coffee and purchased some wine. Nice vibe.

Thanks VLM and believe it or not we were sitting next to your parents.

That's awesome. I hope they were behaving.

Why should they? You don't usually.

I hate being a shill but in this case, it's worth it. Come see Louis-Antoine at Vif Seattle! Flame away...

Vif news Flash!

The wines from Louis-Antoine Luyt will not arrive in time for the dinner on Saturday. We do have enough for a tasting and feel we shouldn’t miss the opportunity to have Louis-Antoine in the house!

Instead of dinner we’re going to pare things down and host a sneak preview tasting with the sample bottles that were sent for the evening. Lauren will make special snacks to go with the wines based on ideas she had for the dinner.

What Wine tasting led by natural wine maker, Louis-Antoine Luyt, who has come all the way from Chile to tell his story

When Saturday October 19th

Time 5:30-6:30

Cost - $15*

Why To be surprised and delighted

Caveat We will not have his wines available to sell on Saturday but we will be able to take orders. If you would like to place an order we will honor our 10% off bottles and 15% off cases on the night of purchase policy.
