Humble 2011 Burgundies

Slaton Lipscomb
2011 Val de Mer (Patrick Piuze) Petit Chablis
Very nice, classic white Burgundy nose - lemon, lime, flint, touch of toast. Generously fruited with modest acid and medium richness. Not severe or mineral-driven like a Chablis, but nice for the level. Retasted an hour later, I was a bit less moved.

2011 Gilbert Picq Chablis
More subtle nose than the Piuze with just a touch of stone. Initially sharp and lean, but fills out with air to show white fruit, seashell, mineral. Finishes clean with nice acidity. Good typicity and very enjoyable.

2011 Domaine Olivier Jouan Bourgogne Rouge Hautes Cotes de Nuits Vielles Vignes
Initially spoofy nose with pruney Dr Pepper notes, spice, vanilla. Broad mouth with some roasted mocha notes. Finishes with some medium, slightly astringent tannins. Not very attractive now but seems to have enough material that it may integrate. Not for me though.

2011 Nicolas Rossignol Bourgogne Rouge 'Cuvee l'Heritiere'
Reduction. Soft in the mouth, with dark red fruit and some spice. Fairly tight, but a suggestion of richness at the core. Needs some time to settle and unwind, this grew on me with time.

2011 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru 'Clos de la Boutiere'
Big meaty, rustic nose with purple paint. More structured than the earlier wines in the flight, with nice juicy acids. Initially seemed a bit clumsy but this grew on me a bit as it sat.

2011 Domaine Lucien Muzard et Fils Santenay 1er Cru 'Clos Faubard'
Initially tight nose. Cool, pretty and fresh blue/red fruit on the palate. Less structured than the Maranges. Touch of stone on the back end. With air, some nice animal notes emerge on the nose. Really like this, my pick of the flight, but pricey for what it is at $48 retail. Vineyard is a monopole with Edmond Monnot.

Bonus:
2010 Maison Lou Dumont Gevrey-Chambertin
Very reduced nose, but nice wine underneath. A bit raw and unformed currently, not surprising. With aggressive swirling to beat back the reduction, a classic Gevrey animale nose emerges. Very nice wine as it airs out, with pretty, lifting acid. Oak invisible. I'd buy this at a good price.
Apparently this is a former Japanese sommelier's micronegoce operation, currently making wines in Gevrey. Host says the Fixin is great.

I'm a long time fan of Picq and we're big fans at the shop (even my dad loves it). Personally, I usually spend a couple extra $$ for the VV.

Good to hear about the Bachelet-Monnot Maranges. I really like the Pulignys a lot and have been curious about this.

Thanks.

I had a bunch of the Dumont/Nakada 2009s last year. Variable, with a number muddled by reduction, but most seemed to have good stuffing and substance. The Fixin was good: some nice meaty-foresty notes, but a bit hard. Kind of reminded me of some of the old Fixins Kermit used to bring in (Rossignol?).
