Keith, Absolutely not! It was gorgeous...from a producer I can't recall having been familiar with before.

Thanks for reminding me I haven't posted my notes, which I'll do now.

WINES

Moët & Chandon Cuvée Dom Pérignon '96 -- Yellow, solid stream of bubbles, yellow and white fruits, fragrant complexity, creamy and smooth, bright focused apple/citrus fruits, beautiful texture, ample acid. [E]

Peter Michael Sauvignon Blanc L'Apres-Midi '10 -- Light yellow, pears, Granny Smith apples, harmonious interplay of acid/alcohol/fruits, components balanced in scale, quite food friendly, nothing not to like. [E]

Domaine Marius Delarche Corton-Charlemagne Reserve Grand Cru '05 -- Medium yellow, nice precision in bouquet, Chardonnay fruits, medium acid, apples and citrus fruits, fine structure, so quaffable. [E]

Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin En Motrot '01 -- Dark red, no browning, pleasing berries and cherries, complex spices, medium body, black fruits, earth, good buffered acid, masculine charm. [E]

Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon '94 -- Dark red, pungent bouquet, dark fruits, cassis, slightest herbs for complexity, spice, harmonious elements, cool/suave/debonair, full body, really fine showing of this bottling. [E]

Cockburn Porto Vintage '70 -- Opaque red, black fruits, violets, quite viscous, nice roundness, smooth profile, medium complex, straightforward style, enjoyable in a low-key style. [VG - E]

Keith, One other thing I should have mentioned.

For some reason, the host double decanted this wine. I remarked to someone beside me at the time (not the host), that I wish they had poured the wine straight from the bottle (without decanting) so we could see it develop in the glass.

Even so, it was a joy, especially since its accompanying food dish, while decent, was nothing to brag about.

The wine made the course a success.
