Patrick Rols!

I had a glass of the 2010 Patrick Rols "Les Anciens" (VdP de l'Aveyron, in South-West France) at Ten Bells recently and was instantly smitten. I believe it is sans-soufre Cabernet Franc. I found more of it at Passage de la Fleur and have been reveling in its glory. The store has at least one of M. Rols's other wines, but I haven't tried them. Anyone have any experience with these wines, or M. Rols himself?

"Never heard of these wines" characterizes my impression of many of the wines at Passage de la Fleur. In the best possible way.

Hm. I haven't been in in a couple of months*, but I was familiar with a swath of them. But then I also go to 10B not infrequently.

Have you tried the Dolomies? Those are so good.

*Because, frankly, it is HELL AND GONE.

It is ouillé. On the oxidative front, I think I'm kind of a switch hitter.

Nah, I kind of prefer oxidative, which ouillé seems to be more.

But this one has more of the laser savagnin than the "ooh, I'm a walnut" savagnin.

Especially, per the website, wines from Alsance, an entire region of which I have no knowledge.

the rols la coccinelle is also delicious—very oxidative chenin blanc. but a word to the wise: both bottles i had of the 2013 were dark and gloomy when first opened and took several days in the fridge to open up.
