When we were having dinner at Sammy's Cowby Bistro in Talent, five minutes north of Ashland and a fine restaurant the owner poured me a Syrah from a winery called CowHorn that is just north of there. IMHO a wine that the disorderlies would cotton up to. (I feel Southern today)I had heard a few comments on their juice. Didn't get an opportunity to visit the winery but did find a couple of bottles of their white wine called Spiral 36 a blend of Viognier, Rousanne, Marsanne, that was really tasty. I understand the winery is receiving some positive press on the west coast. It's biodynamic. Like the Arnot Roberts appears like a winner,if you happen to run across any.

Yup, Vern loves Cowhorn...and it is good for the region.

Good restaurant choice. His list is getting picked over however. I got an '82 Giacosa for ~$250 last time I was there. He often has trouble "finding" the best wines...used to have '88 Trollat on the list. I tried to order the '85 Verset when I was there a few months ago and that was missing...

I've been eating at Sammy's every years for about 15 t0 17 years and when we walk through the door Vern asks what are we drinking this year? He has a good palate but if he has his druthers he'll drink Bordeaux. This year I brought a grand cru Burg(99 Potel) on the first night at the restaurant and got chewed out by Vern. Two nights later I brought a 88 Leoville Las Cases and Vern said he was happy that I had returned to my good senses. Charlene, Verns wife who is still in charge of the kitchen also appreciates Bordeaux.
I'm sure you know that Charlene's cooking style was perfectec while she worked at Chez Panisse many years ago.
