Lettie on Pascaline

Lettie Teague's talents really do seem to tend towards celebrity journalism. A fine example today, an article about Pascaline Lepeltier.

Not much you didn't know if you've been paying attention. But maybe the shop will give her a raise.

She runs pretty much the only place to drink in my work neighborhood, so I treasure her even more than I might on her own merits.

And I think this is the metier for LT, she should avoid deep substance and stick to the celebs.

Huh, BYOB at PDH doesn't work for you? These finicky artisanal investment bankers...

Oh, cockage is fine, but that's really a place where you have a meal. At RT you can share a bottle at the bar and head on your way.

Also, I OD on PDH downtown near the Chateauneuf, so don't think of it as much when in midtown.

I don't know now what is to become of son-of-Gilt.

Poor etiquette to bring one's own. Unless it's to commemorate a special occasion.

Mine isn't removable, so not bringing it isn't really an option.

More seriously, I would argue that, if a restaurant is taking markups of 250-300% over retail, etiquette is not a major concern for me.

"Cockage"? Freudian slip?
You will find it here with the search function, but in brief, it was the way the charge used to be listed on the restaurant's bill at PDH.

Indeed. Here's the real history. I posted this back in May of 2008 when Sharon was still living in Paris and came to NY for a visit.

New York welcomes Sharon Bowman with a stiff fee
Sharon Bowman came across the pond and dined with a number of the New York locals tonight. Dinner was at the always scrumptious Peking Duck House. Thankfully, I was not the official note taker for the evening, so I will let Ben Sherwin or perhaps Michel Abood give a full account of the dinner, but, in addition to Ben and Michel, in attendance were Sharon and her significant other, Arnaud, her friend Carrie, Asher Rubinstein, Jorge Henriquez, Jay Miller, Paul Jaouen, Leo Frokic, his wife Constance and yours truly.

An interesting mix of wine was planned with Champagne, white Burgundy, CA Pinot, Red Burgundy and Chateauneuf flights planned.

I didn't write all the wines down, but from memory here's what we had:

1995 Luneau-Papin- Muscadet L D'Or
Selosse- Champagne
1999- Taitenger ?
Some Champagne that was corked
A '98 and an '06 Jadot white Burgundy
1994 Williams Selyem- Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
2006 Alesia- Pinot Noir, Green Valley, RRV
A not so good '83 RedBurgundy
1983 Joseph Drouhin- Echezeaux
1996 Jadot- Ruchottes Chambertin
1998 Clos des Papes- CDP
2003 Vieux Telegraphe- CDP
1998 Pierre Usseglio- CDP Cuvee de Mon Aieul
1999 Pierre Usseglio- CDP Cuvee de Mon Aieul
2000 Pierre Usseglio- CDP Cuvee de Mon Aieul
2003 Pierre Usseglio- CDP Cuvee de Mon Aieul
1995 Pierre du Coulaine- Savennieres Doux

Plus maybe a couple of other wines that I'm missing.

All in all a good night until we received the bill, where we were shocked to find we were stuck with a stiff add on!
