Chinese Economize On Bordeaux

I guess that's that.

Funniest line:

Following their palates, Chinese consumers are drifting away from the Médoc. “Before it was Lafite, Mouton,” said Yin. "But now they are looking at St.-Emilion, Pomerol, Lalande de Pomerol and Burgundy. Customers are educated. The brand era is over. Now they are looking for taste and value."

I guess Pomerol mixes better with Sprite.

If they can't sell it at home, does that mean that all those Lafite fakes are going to come streaming back to the global marketplace? And the heat-damaged rest of them?

Goodness, where does one being? This seems more like a dictate of fashion than a sense of taste. And how long before one of the glossies tells us the Chinese market has moved on to Clos Rougeard?
