Bodegas Campo Negro Finca el Reposo Cabernet Sauvignon 2004-

Let me first say, I'm not a big Cabernet Sauvignon fan, especially 100% Cab. This monolith claims 14.6%. I'm betting it is closer to 16%. Color was black when I bought it ($12), but has a nice pruny brown edge to it now. I pulled the cork, and smelled the gullet. Smelled like vinegar. Boy was I wrong; I poured a taste and got a nose full of black olive. Decanted (just before dinner, so maybe 20 minutes of air), and black olive slightly relaxed with fennel notes. Same on the palate, backed by silky blackberry jam. Quite the monolith. I would like to try 4 years down the road. I'm not sure it would hold longer than that. A pleasant surprise with some NY Strips. Very stolid, but it has a soft side, just waiting to be revealed.
