Adieu, Pineau

SFJoe

Joe Dougherty
Jules reports via Thierry Puzelat on the LDM website:

-As of early 2013, Pineau D'Aunis is officially de-classified from use in the Touraine AOC.

"If you start a new plantation in Sauvignon or Pinot Noir, you get a 10,000 euro subsidy from the minister of agriculture. If you plant Pineau d'Aunis, you get nothing."

Some more great thinking from the genius bureaucrats.

Alas Joe, the bureaucrats have a little to do with this. Thats the ODGs who are in charge, and they are exclusively composed of elected vignerons!!!

The best side of democraty in a way...

The group obviously wasn't vetted for intelligence.

Majority rule has to be balanced by individual rights, or something like that. Wonder why the antis felt this action was worth taking; who was harmed by the P d"A?

The argument is along the lines of the Touraine having a clearer global marketing message if they strangle all the distinctive stuff and look more like New Zealand with limestone.

Right, I remember now hearing somewhere the motivation for this kind of thing is to 'brand' the appellation unambiguously vis-a-vis the rest of the world. Tant pis.

I haven't aged much....

I would imagine that this will further undermine the AOC among the best producers and leave it even more in the hands of the crap producers.
