Bad news, good news, japanese style

Bad news: Japan, the land of tradition, of nuance, of subtlety, of business decisions decades-long in the making, has gone for the quick fix... Dancyu, one of this country's premier gourmet mags, has released a "Best Wines of 2008" list.

Good news: "Wine of the Year" honors go to..................

2004 Overnoy Arbois Pupillin

Bad news, redux: The wine, until now relatively cheap and widely available, seems to be sold out everywhere.

I almost brought a bottle of this (on top of a bottle of Larmandier-Bernier rose) to Ryugin the other day.

Well, well. Crazy Japanese, what can you do.

Thankfully, the 2006 and 2007 are still in the market here in the states. And they are dandy.
Best, Jim

I'm not too hopeful that the market pressures here will ease off in time for the next vintages, Jim.
It might work that way... maybe Overnoy will go the way of the "Loose Socks" craze, and boom and bust within a year or two.
Wine trends seem to show a bit more staying power, though. I fear that this wine might end up only being available in Ginza hostess clubs, along with DRC and "Dom Pin".

cheers,

How was Ryugin?
I've heard mixed things about it.
