Burlotto Langhe Mores 1997 and 1998

Does anybody know how this wine (50% Nebbiolo and 50% Barbera) ages?

I could buy 12 mixed bottles of this for 36 Euro. I am tempted.
 
With the caveat that I've never drank this wine, I think it's likely worth the gamble. I like everything this producer makes, especially the pelaverga which is probably my desert island wine.
I've also had great experiences aging the Langhe nebbiolo in the medium term (5-10 years). I think they could go longer, but not in my cellar.
 
Awhile back I had this wine with some moderate age on it. I will check back to see which vintage it was, sorry I don't know off the top of my head. The upshot was that I liked it. In general, buying Burlotto is the spending the smart money.
 
The case.

The hesitation is that my sister in Germany is already annoyed about the constant appearance of heavy packages at her door. And her cellar is getting full...
So it needs to have a reasonable chance to be something we will all really enjoy.

Actually the promise to share always works wonders. Shipment on its way. Will report about wines in December.
 
Tried the first bottle of the 97 today. Very well worth the 3 Euro. Exactly what I had hoped for. Light and bright, nice acidity and earthiness. And no need to rush to finish that case, got better over several hours.

got a bottle of 2009 Monvigliero to try in the cellar, Jay, if it survives the holiday madness.

Perhaps not a representative vintage. But that's less of a concern for me as far as getting myself properly calibrated, compared to the fact that it's Verduno.
 
Fabio is one of my favourite guys, and sadly he already has representation in my corner of the globe. The 1989 Monvigliero is very nice now.

We opened a research bottle of this wine and drank it over the last three days, recognizing that it's very young for the genre.

I'm descriptor-challenged, but the texture and balance were very nice; the aromas evoke Mediterranean spices more than berries and orchard fruits, and stem inclusion is evident, but everything is nicely proportioned. Acidity is noways deficient, but it's in the background - maybe a signature of the vintage - and there is a very slightly heavy quality to the tannins that calls to mind a 2009 Burgundy I drank recently. This is a wine that superficially seems transparent, with everything on display, but still somehow leaves you feeling most of its development is still ahead of it.
