dinner in NY

Jonathan Loesberg

Jonathan Loesberg
I will be in New York and available for a jeebus this coming Friday, Nov. 22. So I am hereby shilling for company and a place to do this. Thanks.

I'll put this on the Jeebus board, but that never seems to work really.

It was paired with a1990 ducru and a 2001 Muller Catoir hb spatlese 2133

All but the ducru see to be peaking, the latter wine had beautiful aromatics bit wasn't showing much on the palate despite a double decant until an hour or two into the meal. It was still improving whrwn I left.

3 beautiful wines and good company.

An atypical and delightful evening. Only three wines, but all of them wonderful. If one put the Laurel Glen and the Ducru in front of me blind and told me to guess which was Bordeaux and which was Cal cab, I don't think my odds would be better than 60-40. Also only three people and the company was wonderful. But I think I could tell Jay from Cliff with better odds.

It was a lovely evening, and the wines indeed showed well. Amazing to see a Cal cab and a 1990 Bordeaux both at 12.5%. Maybe that was more normal then in Bordeaux; I'm sure it was. But still.

I served the Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon '95 this evening and was surprised that the listed alcohol designation was 14.1%. While realizing this designation at this level can vary by 1.5% either up or down, I still was surprised that this Montelena would be designated quite so high for a 1995 vintage Cab.

Having said the foregoing, this Montelena bottling was really fine, as expected.

. . . . . Pete
