Any thoughts on this pairing?

Ridge Pagani Ranch Zin '11 with Cranberry-Pear Tart in a Walnut Shortbread Crust with Honey Vanilla Ice Cream.

The Pagani often has a Port-like character to it , so it does make some sense... But it still sounds like a ghastly combination to me.

My guess would be: if you keep the dessert relatively un-sweet, this could work. The honey-vanilla ice cream is probably weird with it but the others might be OK.
 
Yes, I expected to catch some static on the idea of the Pagani Zin but I thought maybe someone (no idea who!) might see some merit in the idea.

Guess I'll have to think more on this!

That description screams white to me. Or orange.

I don't think cranberry, vanilla, and honey are going to work with a red wine no matter how sweet.
