Pierre Péters Blanc de Blancs Brut Cuvée de Réserve -- Yellow, nice mousse, citric and apple notes, quite elegant, medium complex, nice freshness, reliably quite quaffable. [E]

Kapcsandy Family Winery Napa Valley Yountville Appellation State Lane Vineyard Rosé '09 -- Classic rose color, strawberries, earth, minimal citrus, melons, ample richness, medium body, good grip. [E]

Anne Amie Yamhill Carlton Prismé Pinot Noir Blanc '09 -- Light yellow, generous nose, pears, light vanillin nuances, some nuttiness, medium complex, no edges, altogether lovely. [E]

Joseph Phelps Napa Valley Insignia '95 -- Dark garnet red, complex bouquet, cedar, blackberries, nicely supple and velvety, all elements well integrated, round and delicious, no hurry. [E]

Domaine René Engel Clos Vougeot '00 -- Beautiful red, voluptuous bouquet, cherries, earth, maybe some strawberries, luscious texture, acidity/tannins well buffered, handsome and refined, terrific. [E (or O?)]

Dow's Crusted Port '85 -- Medium red, generous bouquet in Classic Port style, nuttiness, dark fruits, full bodied, medium complex, nicely evolved but most viable, pleasing profile. [VG - E]

I opened a bottle of the 95 Insignia for a friend on request a couple of weeks ago. It was really good and made me think about opening some of the older CA cabs that I have in my cellar. Just shouldn't confuse some of the cabs released now and those of some years ago.

Funny, I was thinking that some of the most recent Cabernets I've had have made me think we may ( in some small degree) be coming full circle.

We had some of the Napa Valley Auction vintners here not too long ago and I made it a point to "quiz" them about the general thinking these days about today's wines versus what was being done with them just a few years ago.

Jim, I got the same feeling as you that more of the vintners may in fact, at least in some degree, "be coming full circle". Let's hope so!

Yes there has been conversation to that fact and some wines that bear hard evidence to your observation. So let us hope things move in that direction but it will take time.
