Fatboy: recently went through it myself. Nothing serious, thankfully, hope you find the same. Just got the all clear from the surgeon and decided to celebrate with a shitty bottle of Vosne-Romanée.

I miss giving Dressner shit about that stupid glass. And why would you want to use something that accentuates defects? The glass is worse than an MRI.

like the flashes of a native brown on the Clark's Fork (a river runs motherfucking through it bitches).

Clark's Fork? Shit hell, that where I spent several summers fishing. We always called them "German browns," indicative of a belief that they were non-native. Brookies and Dolly Varden were the natives AFAIK.

I remember once when Didier accidentally knocked it off a barrel and broke it. He was just horrified, afraid that Joe would kill him. I told Didier, "Any friend would have done the same."

2009 foillard cdp from magnum. delicious. but ever so slightly corked.

Can a corked wine be delicious?

Yes. At least for those I've known who are lucky enough to be blind to TCA.

As for my wines last night, Mary Elke sparkling wine -- a really wonderful Anderson Valley producer of sparkling wine, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir blanc (a still rosé), but I'm less enthusiastic about her Pinot Noirs. Followed with 1996 Allemand Chaillot -- probably the most disappointing (maybe the only disappointing) Allemand wine I've ever had. Not bad, but not good -- kind of muddy and inexpressive, and without any generosity.

Hilarious. I fear he may have had a spare in his hotel room.

I strangled a bunch of unicorn wines with my bare hands last night, but I took a vow of silence about them.

After that, drank totes fab '98 Chamonard with the roast chicken.

I love that wine.

In better news from Cornas, 2001 Geynale from Michel is totally brilliant tonight.

I am hearing so much lately about '97 red Burgs.
private offer of veritas cellar?
Almost. One of my favorite Veritas alumni was talking them up recently. I think he was channeling Steve Verlin or something.

I haven't had any recently.

I still remember sitting at the bar next to Steve and hearing him go on and on about the '97s, how they were the wines for the ages, how great they were, & etc. Odd moment in the wine life.

Digging in the cellar came across a 95 Araujo syrah that I didn't know I owned. Served it with a Zuni style chicken that my wife made, 15 years had made it drinkable. I bought a case or two of this wine and sold it for a very nice profit a couple of years or so later.
