What did you drink tonight?

2013 andi knauss trollinger "without all"

he is not a nihilist, is he? I did not get along with those in former life

2012 andi knauss riesling "s" württemberg. zippy, racy, poised. crunchy. medium-plus-plus.

as good as the "g" you opened(*) in december?

(*) still looking for a urban equivalence verb for "untwisted"

2012 Von Schuberg Maximin Grunhauser Abstberg Spatlese

Perfectly poised, athletic and balanced wine that delivered a powerful kick to the head to reprove me for opening it just now. Maybe it will have calmed down on day 2.

Tonight I pulled an Tonight I pulled an orphan 1993 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Herrenweg de Turckheim, which has held up fairly well. Honey colored and a little simple, but not bad. When first opened, a nice streak of acidity gave it focus and played nicely with the off-dry sweetness, but the acid faded and it lost its sharpness. Still not bad at all, though.

This was good at the original location in March of 2013, but with a detached sweetness ( i.e. not entirely expressed through fruit flavours ) which always causes me to take a wait-and-see attitude with a young German Riesling. It did however integrate in the finish somewhat.

I am glad to hear it's come around in bottle in the past year.

that would be 2012 Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Spatlese Trocken and Krettnacher Altenberg Spatlese Trocken, Hofgut Falkenstein.

over the following week in the fridge, the Altenberg destroyed its counterpart. I suppose it might be a preference of terroir for me, or at least its suitability for a dry wine.

La bota de manzanilla 42 (February 2013 saca). Awesome. Lithe. Touch of salt.

'08 Ganevat les grands teppes VV -- something very odd going on here. Smells and tastes like Sonoma-Cutrer ( as I recall it from the '80s). Not like any prior Grands Teppes, in my experience. Rudy K apostles at work?

2010 Savagnin, Domaine des Bodines. This is exactly how I want this variety to taste when made non-oxidatively. The balance is impeccable. It started off as if one should drink it now, but the acid came through about an hour after opening. Great length in the finish.

I wish I could have this a 5-liter box sitting in the frig.

2008 Az. Ag. Antoniotti Odilio Bramaterra, which was a bottle of delicious Nebbiolo goodness and a fine match for wild boar, but which made me a bit sad when I noted the Louis/Dressner rear label and I thought about all the great wines I would never have tasted if it weren't for Joe D.

I love this wine. The 5L box is a superb idea.

We drank a Carricante from Etna, 2008 Pietramarina from Benanti.
I think rock heads and Muscadet fans would love this.
I was very impressed. Young but already developing complexity.

Speaking of '12 Ruwer, I've been hoping to start drinking the Karthauserhof Kabinett but I haven't gotten around to it. Maybe next week.

This weekend was a lovely update on Mosse with the 2011 Magic of Juju (I've only had the wines sporadically in recent years) and then a lovely reprise of the 2002 Bergdolt Ruppertsberger Reiterspfad Riesling Spatlese trocken.

Isn't this wine delightful? I've been really pleased with the bottles I've had. None to cellar, I just drink them out.

2002 Huet Petillant, first release - the annual bottle for our son's birthday. Drinking very nicely out of the bottle, pretty fresh with just enough roundness; then dries out a bit, but still good. Second night, mostly still, but still attractive, tangy Chenin to accompany leftover angel hair spaghetti with fresh Mozzarella and spicy tomato sauce.

2005 Rovittello
I like this wine. Emotional response? I suppose. Siding with Rousseau, lately, after decades of harrumphing Voltaire (ala Mel Brooks)

Way to go, Mrs. Bixler! Must get me some when next in town.

In other news, presenting the alter-ego (alt title: If only I had an R/O machine):
