What did you drink tonight?

Yeah, try finding it in a NYC wine shop though. The pinots seem to sell out right away. A heads up when the 2012s are released would be appreciated!

In case anyone is listening of course.

Jay, you're not on the highly allocated Eminence Road mailing list?

Mark Lipton

I didn't like the hostage situation of needing to buy a case of rkatsitelli for every bottle of pinot. Especially when the don't even make a rkatsitelli. Maybe they were trying to tell me something?

Aw shucks, guys . . .

Big Eminence Road oh'12 pinot tasting coming soon to lower Manhattan. You heard it here first. All the wines are monsters--some over 12 percent!

Time for some reverse osmosis!

The von Schubert was much friendlier last night. A firm handshake rather than a kiss.

Still a little daunting so I won't touch another for a while but good stuff.

A couple recent reds:

2009 Clos Rougeard Domaine was tight, dense and so finely textured. And light, too. Dense and light at the same time. Only had one glass early on but I'm sure it opened up wide after a few hours.

2009 Muga Reserva Rioja is pretty big and ripe. Manages to hold it together but I miss the weeds and flowers. Great with pork and beans and with some tangy California goat cheese.

Was just referring to tempranillo in general. Big fan of Muga, maybe just a lush vintage?

Looking at their website, looks like a good year. Agree with their very detailed tasting note, too, except my bottle didn't show the flowers.

12 Briords is the best young Muscadet I have ever had.
2002 Bossard Granit rang my bells too, not that I disagree with you.

The 2012s from Marc are special wines, maybe better than the 2002s as young wines.

Just stumbled upon a glass worth of 2012 Briords someone left in my fridge. Bottle was opened 5 weeks ago. Damn. All stones now, and what texture.

Ferrando 2011 Canavese Rosso "La Torazza" - I didn't know they made this wine. Intense and bright, though a little non-descript otherwise, it works well at the table.

I love the Canavese Rosso (Nebbiolo with a little Barbera) as an every day wine. For under $20 retail I find it tastes like northern Piedmont Nebbiolo, has some nice structure and, as you say, pairs well with food.
