What did you drink tonight?

Watson Ranch is Napa, but they apparently do have a Santa Cruz Mountain Chardonnay as well. I've had the Watson Ranch and found it very delicious and interesting, although probably not as light on its feet as the SCM.
 
de Sousa Champagne Cuvée des Caudalies, disgorged March 2011. Magnificent acidity, lemon confit with bubbles. Very appropriate as I had just potted mandarin orange jam (we have a surfeit during Chinese New Year) and cashew nut butter.
 
Last night at Two Amys - the house red, billed as "Hipster Red" and described as a 2010 barbera "full of stemmy deliciousness." A repeat order for me. Initially chosen because the name made me laugh and the description made it potentially attractive. It was/is - quite so.
 
2004 grivots "les beaux monts" 13% abv. I opened expecting either painfully young and somewhat closed, or worse, green meanies. Ha! Delicious young vosne-romanee, floral and mineral. No green meanies. Perfectly pleasurable tonight and many promises for the future. Was expecting to open something else for dinner, but, no, I think that won't happen now.

no diss to you kirk, but "green meanies" = "internet wine turds discover that pinot is an awkward grape and sometimes it takes time to get its shit together -- but who cares cos i finally discovered an identifiable vintage characteristic, and i canz audition for teh wwipies"

i read about "green meanies" all the time with regards to 04s. i saw them all the time in past vintages that folks would now spank teh monkies to.

these days all i see is more overripe picking, and more sugar in teh fermentations.

Rhys is it's own thing. Most similar to Mt. Eden and I would say Corton-Charlemagne in style for the Alipne, when it hits. Horseshoe is hard for me to categorize.

Salina Heintz chardonnay is most similar to Kalin for obvious reasons (such as the 2007 current vintage). This wine really impressed local skeptics.

I'm really happy to see all this activity. Of course, all these young guns owe a debt to all those who came before and didn't give in to bigger-better-faster-MORE!

I love that stuff. It's a shame they don't sell growler fills of it. The not-quite-rosé of Sangiovese is delicious, too.

2000 Voillot Bourgogne 12.5%, even a tad past its prime, delivered Burgundianness like a little-engine-that-should, salving the bad memory of the othernight's 2000 Gouges.

sources close to the spot tell me that there were leprechauns in beaux monts in 04. apparently they kept the ladybugs at bay.
