What did you drink tonight?

Nasty, expensive Cotes de Provence rose at the airport hotel.

Yikes, bespeaks desperate circumstances. Stay strong, Joe.

I drink oceans of the stuff on hot summer afternoons--mostly cdrs, but the same thing. It's an alimentation, not a wine. Also it's cheap, not expensive.

Had a wine dinner with Kenny Likitprakong from Folk Machine/Hobo/Ghostwriter. He's on an East Coast tour, so try to catch him when he's in your area.

Had the 2012 Folk Machine Tocai Friuliano which at 11% was crisp, clean and appetite whetting.

The 2013 Banyan Gewurtraminer, which is at 12%, is made in a crisp, refreshing style. I drank a lot of the 2012 last Spring and Summer. Gewurztraminer with the spice and rose petals without the heaviness. Neat trick and delicious.

2012 Hobo Grenache Sceales Vineyard. This is made with a good bit of whole clusters and the vines are about 100 years old, head trained and dry farmed. The 2012 has more meaty gamey notes to go along with the spice around the edges. He and Pax share this vineyard and I haven't tried the Wind Gap version, but this is the best grenache I've had from CA and in the same class as Charvin, IMO. I'm not fucking kidding.

2012 Hobo Zinfandel Branham Vineyard Rockpile. The 2011 version of this wine blew my mind. The 2012 is almost a degree higher but does not stray into anything resembling jam. It's a warmer rendition of spicey brambly berry fruited zinfandel with a nice earthy streak. It doesn't have the herbal savoryness of the 2011, but has a TA of almost 7 (!!!) which makes it fantastic with food.

If you haven't tried Kenny's wines (he also makes pinot noir from Santa Cruz under the Ghostwriter label) then you're making a mistake.

Crap rose of syrah from South Africa at the airport lounge.

Jesus Christ, man. Next thing I hear, you'll be tasting 1200 Chilean wines with Josh.

What kind of airports don't have beer?

there is only one airport that I know of, where you can get a drink.

Right, Otto ?

Really getting into Languedoc-Roussillon whites these days. Drank a few 2009 Clos Marie Manon (mainly Rolle and Rousanne). A stunning wine with floral aromatics, tropical fruit weight, a just-right acidic finish, and a touch of salinity.
