What did you drink tonight?

'91 LDh- Bosconia Gran Reserva- Quite tasty and a very solid showing. I still haven't had one taste as good as the bottle Gilman opened at his place on release.
That bottle was so good (and better than others tried since) that it makes one suspect in retrospect that it could have been a special cuvee for the reviewer. Hmmmmm.

Damn that was a good bottle. I wasted all sorts of folklore that evening.

That '07 Texier Dom. de Pergaud Brezeme was an utterly transformed wine after 3 days in the fridge. Now it's an open, juicy, classic Syrah with a hint of licorice in the nose. Rich and smooth on the palate, too. Yeah, the wisdom of BJ's rule of 15 is once more borne out.

Opened a 2006 Pergaud VV the other night that was tight like a clenched first on the first night but enjoyable the second. Shouldn't have opened it so early but it has great potential.

At our cull party on Saturday, a side-by-side of 2000 Ch. de Beaucastel and 2000 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel. Many felt that the two were so different, but to me the striking thing was their similarities. The Beaucastel was shockingly forward for this producer and the Tablas Creek's fruit, while brightly Californian, wasn't that different from its French sibling's. Only a little bit of meaty goodness in the Beaucastel, and little secondary character.

last time I checked, Tablas was doing just tremendous things with their Esprit. Really impressive.

weird - several bottles of the 06 were showing beautifully 1 to 2 years ago

Had a magnum of '06 a week ago that was young but showing some brezeme personality. OTOH, '07 was really tight. Not speaking of '05...

2011 Lafarge Cóte de Beaune Villages, day two, still not much happening. Tight on the nose, tight in the mouth, tight all around. Why does it have to be like this?

On a more positive note, the Quinta do Infantado Ruby Porto has become brambly and even more delicious after a week on the kitchen counter. Incredible value.

I know it's completely redundant, but I had 3 glasses of '12 Pepiere (not Briords or any of the crus) last night at Café Rouge in Berkeley, and every one of them took my breath away.

I had three bottles of 2012 Pepiere Briords on Wednesday night.* Two were only fantastic. One was phenomenal. I bought more of this than any other wine I ever purchased (with one exception meant mostly to pour at my wedding), and I am quickly realizing it is not enough.

Last night, a couple of glasses of 2007 Puffeney Les Berangeres Trousseau. If you had poured it blind and told me it was Burgundy, I would have believed.#

* Not alone, of course.

# Although I have a bad track record when it comes to these things.

Total gyp! I'd like to see the tasting notes in real time for that kind of achievement.

I am trying to wrap my head around holger koch pinot 11 reserve since last night. I am stuck in some kind of a loop in the Matrix, at a Baden rail station, facing due West-Southwest.

yeah yeah, that too

1998 Jean-Marc Boillot Volnay 13,0% getting a little tired around the edges but a mature pleasure, proof of the novel principle of gaining pearls while losing marbles.

F Roddolo Barbera Bricco Appia 2006. Concentrated, pure fruited, intensely aromatic and balanced, one of the finest Barberas I ever tasted.

history tells us that the swabian border has always been a fluid thing.

the fruit quality on that was nuts. even better last night.

I have not begun to think about the fruit yet. That's holger 2.0

The easiest thing about this wine, btw, is its uncanny Morey-like dirt expression.

Surprised he is not talked about more. They are lovely wines and very reasonably priced.

I think we need to start date stamping posts on this thread. Hmmm.

Just had a very nice Flying Fish Double India Pale Ale using wild rice, a good effort for a New Jersey brewery.

Now about to imbibe the 2011 Anthill Farms Pinot Noir Peters Vineyard. Still experimenting with the winery to see if their wines resonate with me and are worth the money and effort to continue chasing. Very much on the fence so far.
