What did you drink tonight?

I just bought some Rollin 2010 Ile de Vergelesses, but I won't open one for a while.

Man, that's what the village, Les Vergelesses and Fichots are for.
Not to mention HCDB.
Actually, hold the HCDB, never mind.

'99 Brundlmayer steinmassel Riesling. hideously, profoundly corked. As in I was overwhelmed with TCA instantly upon merely pulling the cork out.

So, next I turn to a very golden, very botritized Nigl '98 Seftenberger GV- privat. May have to reduce the 2d half bottle with that granulated, evaporated Mexican sugar cane juice from rancho gordo and serve over French toast in the AM.

Finally. Redemption. '12 CRB cuvée gamay. Spice. Crunch. Lift Comfort. And a big smile.

Who makes great Pernand besides Rollin and Briailles these days? They must be out there, in fact I may have tasted some, but I just can't put a name to a label. It would be a shame if there weren't more, since this terroir is well suited to large icebergs floating off Antarctica.

Speaking of, I went to a comprehensive pouring of 2011s from Chandon de Briailles at Gordon's last week. A couple of observations.
I can't recall the last time I had such a strong preference for everything from Pernand in their range. Not even when I tasted the very same 11s from barrel :-). Something about the precision and mineral lift of the P-Vs that makes them more appealing and impressive at this moment. An exception was a sweet and expansive Lavieres, that had a borderline exotic small forest berry flavour I couldn't quite place.
Another item worth pondering is that the wines *tasted* like they had less sulfur than in previous vintages, and I think CdB have been below average to begin with. I need to confirm this; I am going by what they tasted like. But this makes for nicely approachable young juice in a vintage like 2011 - particularly the village Pernand-Vergelesses which, unless I am mistaken, isn't typically brought in to either New York or Boston.

time was, any number.

the dickweeds have been culling them in favor of teh "souperburg" for years.

fb.

Jean-Marc/Hugues 06 les Vergelesses was pleasing recently on the second day; haven't come across Regis/Luc in red. Dubrueil-Fontaine Ile '10 was nice, but softer than CdB or Rollin. Haven't come across Raphet or Delarche in our environs, though I see them around elsewhere.

I fear enforcer retribution for overstepping fight-club rules on this subject, however.

Thanks for commenting on the 11s, Sasha; Savigny also seems to have done well-ish in 11, judging at second hand.

Also open: 2010 Chateau du Hureau Saumur-Champigny "Tuffe" is a lean, herbal scented cabernet franc. Tremendous match with lamb and white bean chili. Raspberry fruit, beautiful stem tannin.

I really like everything Hureau is doing. But for under $20 the Tuffe is amazing everyday fare.

Yes!

Had the '11 Tuffe last week: for $18, wow. Lisagathe must be for the ages.

I haven't seen that anywhere yet. Source?

BTW, Wine Library has the 2010 Rollin Fichots.
