What did you drink tonight?

2013 Clos Saron "Out of the Blue" from own-rooted Carignan vines from the 1880s was suave and good with a breath of air.

2012 Panevino "CCP" Cannonau was alive and exciting--though a Belgian-Turkish barstool neighbor, given a sip, called it "too American." Go figure.

How did you know the barstool was Belgian-Turkish? Fez on the chocolates?

Sure. And I hope that if someone refers to a "field player," you do understand that the grass is hitting the ball?

How many times have you had it, already?!

Very sorry, I meant Ridge in general. Have had an inexplicable string of bad luck up until now.

Ohhh...

On that note, a restaurant opened recently in NYC that has the '94 of same on the list for a very reasonable price. Sorely tempted to go try it, though I suppose provenance could be an issue, if it was not some sort of library release.

You like soccer?

2007 Alzinger riesling Steinertal - back in birmingham plundering one of frank stitt's winelists. Very tight even with air. Married well with the high acid green gazpacho with crab, not quite as well with the loin of rabbit wrapped in bacon with chanterelles and lady peas.

Food really spectacular at Highlands Bar and Grill tonight.

Beaune Imports

Showing excellent primary fruit with only the slight emergence of secondary notes. Phenomenal texture on the palate and integrated tannins on the finish. A treat with lots of life in front of it.

With dinner we had a lovely bottle of 2010 Reinhold and Cornelia Schneider Weissburgunder Spätlese Trocken. The fruit was 2010 mellow, but there to be coaxed, and the shimmering minerality made it all fresh and lovely with my zanderfilet and chanterelle risotto, and even with the asparagus as well. The package was great.

My first wine (that I can remember) from these folks, but I'd be happy to try more.

I'm pretty sure it was the regular/not the C. It was in a restaurant and I didn't scrutinize the bottle, but nothing extra was noted on the list.

Is that one to look out for?

'07 Gavenat cuvée prestige (savagnin sous voile) is lovely. Fairly light, but quite persistent. Multi-layered. Preserved lemon and coppery, but also salty, delicious meatiness. Really great with our rancho gordo Sangre de toros tonight, but very fine by itself too.

2008 Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny.
Classic.
2012 Bourgogne "Chaumes des Perriers" Dupont-Fahn
Definitely above paygrade

Tonight, the 2012 Muller-Catoir Weissburgunder Haardt. Nothing mindblowing and not a lot of complexity, but lovely elegance and a bit more succulence than last night's bottle, something for the tongue. It was also splendid with a cauliflower/elderflower soup, grilled shrimp with rouille, and later with olive oil poached halibut. These wines do well.

I've also been drinking a couple of bottles of Reinhold Haart PG Spatlese, the 07 and 08. Interestingly the 08 is more zesty and exuberant while the 07 is finer. I guess that is aging curves for you! But both are delicious and hard to stop drinking.
