You're welcome but the real credit goes to Jose Pastor, who found the wine.

Last night, our tasting group had 8 premier cru Chablis from Brocard, 2002-2010. Just based on the two bottles, Vaulorent would appear to be the way to go from that domaine. 2007 and 2010 were easily the 2 best wines. '07 Vaucoupin and '05 Montee de Tonnerre were premox'd.

Afterwards, the host usually breaks out some cull wines. More times than not, the wines have been way better than expected.

2002 Navarro Gewurztraminer (dry) was stunning. An archtypal example of what Gewurz with age should be.

2002 Navarro Pinot Gris was pretty dead.

2011 Barthod Bourgogne Rouge "Les Bons Batons" is open as could be. Nice wine with a bit of green stem, cherry and earth. Unfortunately at $45 it is a pretty poor value, even for Burgundy.

1985 Williams Hill Reserve Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is holding up well with fine tannin, iron notes and vibrant acidity. Lots of tertiary red wine flavors. Alcohol is listed at 12.9%. The bottle was a gift, again for feeding a neighbors cats, and when I protested saying it wasn't necessary neighbor replies "Oh, it's not that good of a wine." Funny guy.

wow, that is steep for bourgogne even though they think they are selling you chambolle
I wonder how much VLM & Co sell it for

A couple of delicious beers at the biergarten, while the locals (or at least the vocal crowd of Dutch guys) were pleased to see Costa Rica beat Italy and my kid was happy to run around playing.

At the apartment, a surprisingly delicious 2012 Van Volxem Alte Reben Riesling. I wasn't expecting complexity but the piercingly precise and juicy Saar glory of this bottle kept me going and going and going.

00 Bosquets Gigondas, actually nice old school structure, before the 20 somethings referenced in jll's gigondas book got their hands on the cave.

outrageous straight ahead 60's jazz [think: coltrane africa] at latona tonite w rob scheps. then onto vif for good food and rose.

now tokyo string quartet playing ravel and debussy on the LP12.

yes jasona audio is good generally but even better with a bit of rhone.

Prevost '10, les alpes '12, and Texier Brezeme '11 with good company at Chez Panisse Cafe. 8 savory dishes and 3 desserts. Not a flaw in any one of them. The brezeme with the short ribs and with the chanterelle ravioli might have been the pairs of the night; or perhaps the alpes with the stinging nettle pizza? No. It was all just magical. As ever.

2002 Domaine de Bellivière Hommage à Louis Derré was terrific last night. Top dog in the Nicolas stable, 100% Pineau d’Aunis from vines that have seen between 80 and 100 Summers, showed great aromatics, ideal balance and heft. Definitely a member of the red elites.

with chicories dressed in lemon-anchovy vinaigrette, and shrimp ravioli: a 2013 Alois Falanghina "Caulino" was just right-aromatically enchanting, with plenty of cut to engage with both dishes. At Dopo, in Oakland. Perfect!

With a mixed grill last night, the '83 Beaucastel (a semi-recent birthday present from my sweetie) was nearly perfect: silken texture, vibrant plummy fruit and only a mild dose of da funk. Acidity was fine. It went quickly, so can't say much about it's evolution, but it certainly was far from tired.

Carried into Ripple last night - 06 Vatan Clos Neore - took forever to open up so decant 'em or hold 'em. 2012 Arnot-Robert trousseau from the list - lovely wine and a good compromise for the diner eating lamb and those of us eating scallops in a mushroom broth.

Steamed countnecks with lemon butter and Briords 2012 FTW. My first bottle of this and it did not last long.

It is now officially summer.

1992 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Auslese. Quite savoury, with plenty of development and very little apparent sweetness, but very pretty and long.
