What did you drink tonight?

1995 La Louvière blanc was surprisingly youthful, even somewhat closed, nary a hint of ox, but there didn't seem to be all that much somethingness there to recompense the formidable structure.

2010 Dominique Belluard Mont Blanc Brut Zéro 12.5%, brought in by the boys and 100% gringet, was flawlessly delish last night, vanished before you could say Ayse to more.

1966 and 1970 Montrose on consecutive nights, both surprisingly jovial, the former a festival of doddering but tasty tertiaries, still showing some tannin, the latter with very alive fruit, Burg-like delicacy, and perfect balance. Oh, let bygones not be.

Mourre du Tendre, Cotes de Rhone, Vielle Vignes, 2005 is still incredibly young. Much better the second day. We've been drinking up our 00s and 01s as well as Cdps from then and 1999. I'll keep my hands off this for another couple of years and will check in on the CdP, then. I once tasted a 15 year old version of the 1995 Cotes de Rhone Vielles Vignes at the domaine. I think these may outlast better known names in the area.

2001 Ostertag Pinot Gris A360P (Muenchberg, natch)

Bought a long, long time ago. Not sure it was worth handcarrying back to Singapore. Nice but not great.

1995 Chateau Poujeaux - classic nose and youthful dark color with great fruit, pretty much at peak and a perfect match for ribeyes off the grill. Outclassed my expectations. $19.99, delivered, lo these many years ago.

I ask in all seriousness: are there many PGs that would be worth handcarrying back to S'pore? I'm even lumping Holger Koch into the question, Sasha.

Those that Léonard Humbrecht made would qualify (but note the past tense -- long past).

There is a Pinot Gris from Clos de Tue-Boeuf that I would hand carry to Singapore, or anywhere. I might also carry the Redtail Vineyard Pinot Gris, which is a beautiful wine. But they are a neighbour, and that would admittedly be an expression of local pride more than anything else.

No, it is empirically verifiable as a beautiful wine. Plus Gilbert is a great guy.
