What did you drink tonight?

Great meal @chez panisse with Prevost 11, 13 Le feu belluard, 13 crb gamay! So delicious and so good with their excellent food. Great fun turning non-winos (but who know good food and drink when it hits them) to these wines. (Except maybe in the case of the CRB it was a little cruel. better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. )

Should we start a new edition of this thread every week, or every month, to keep the length manageable?

It looks as though Sharon may have done this already for Ocotober.

To go with the #GOPDebate, strong cheap port.

And plenty of it.

Christmas Day roast beef tenderloin with Vieux Donjon Chateauneuf du Pape times two, 1999 and 2012. Both decanted for an hour. The 2012 was brambly youthful exuberant fruit while the 1999 proved the rule of 15(ish). Both excellent. Trimbach 2013 Pinot Blanc has zippy acidity, good fruit, and a dry finish, nice match for roasted shrimp with a fennel tomato oregano base sauce and feta panko lemon zest parsley topping.

2007 Drouhin Volnay Clos des Chenes had attractive bright cherry fruit and some earth but needs more age. Still a nice match with roast duck.

2005 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Auslese #28 was delicious. Rich but with balancing acidity and great complexity.

On a Bastardo kick myself, having the 2010s from Puffeney "Berangeres" and Treuvey "Corvees". I had a slight preference for the purity and brightness of the Puffeney but both are great bottles and I'd be happy to drink either anytime. Not sure the Puffeney is going to get better to my taste, the Treuvey might with time.

Dupasquier Marestel 2010 is a gorgeous wine. With some Comte and aged white cheddar. Mature color, spherical, mineral, not a ton of acid but the depth and length of this wine is remarkable. One of the best whites I've tried this year.

That's just a baby!

Bastardo FTW.
Bastardo rules! St. Amant Amador "Tawny Port" NV Lot #8: copper-tawny brown; complex tawny-fig-orange-plum pudding, armagnac-woodsy aroma; walnutty oxidized, mellow oloroso-like tannin and flavor on palate, good acid, quite long, slight heat; actually improved 2 days later in quarter bottle. A blend of 2/3 2006 & 2007 Bastardo given a Madeira-like treatment aging in old barrels in a shed, 1/3 port style wine from the 2001 vintage.

more Bastardo....2013 Arnot-Roberts Bastardo is a nice wine. Softer and rounder-edged than a Puffeney, but still light and aromatic and quite nice.

Cantalupo 2006 Ghemme "Anno Primo" - like, better than the bottle in August, this one drinks moderately velvety and dark-berried; gives up the ghost after about 2 hours though

2009 Lucien Crochet Sancerre Rouge La Croix du Roy is so giving right now. Beautiful pinot noir, it puts a picture in my mind of damp, mossy crumbling shale ledges. Great with homemade pizza. Any excuse to run the oven hot tonight. Brrrrr.

I can't thank the vulgar petite simian enough for introducing me to the wines of Kenny Likitprakong. Tonight's selection was the 2013 Hobo Wine Company Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley. A delightfully drinkable wine at 12.9% alcohol, with red currant and cranberry accented by a dash of spice and a touch of vanilla, held together and focused by supple tannin leading to a mouth-watering tart finish. And it's a great value to boot.
