What did you drink tonight?

2010 Luneau Papin L d'Or was tasting great last night. When I first bought it a few years back it seemed on the richer rounder side of Muscadet but last night with some pan fried scallops it was very focused and balanced.

Kirk we tried the Lenoir 07 Chinon this week as well. I love it. Ideal version of Chinon for me.

So glad to hear that, Marc. Such a good, fun & interesting wine.

Bruno Allion 2013 "HK400" and Jean-Marc Brignot & Anders Frederiksteen 2014 "Sweet beginning of a better end" this past weekend. Opened the Allion first and it opens very grippy, tart even, bordering on under ripe. It fleshes out with time and gains more and more unctuousness until it's gone. Next up the Brignot which, like its name suggests, opens up quite sweet, carbonic on steroids. With time the bottle moves on to "a Better End". The end of the bottle is very reminiscent of the Allion. Two paths meeting at the same finish line. The end justifies the means?

Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 1994 Silver Oak: still quite dark and deep; moderate woody dusty bay Cab opens up with maturing current fruit, bay-woodsy-oaky tannins, slightly woodsy-earthy tone, good density but not overripe, structured and still some serious tannins, good length. Not much complexity, but good unblobby intensity. This wine used to be considered pandering, but compared to some of the current ultra-ripe crème de Cabernet, it seems almost stately.

Chardonnay Monterey Kali-Hart Estate 2013, Talbott: medium body with nice toasty oak (not charred or intrusive), vigorous Meyers lemon and fresh almost crunchy apple fruit, smooth yet lively, decent acid, good length, very Monterey. $12 at TJs!

Cider Washington Dry Hopped NV, Finn River: medium strength lively aroma with slight yeast and hop hints on fresh green apple; fine Champagne-like mousse, light body, dry yet fruity and fairly long, like a top quality apple Prosecco.

Semillon Colchagua Noble Semillon 2010, Viu Manent: clean, fresh yet ripe pear-peach fruit with fresh candle and honey hints; medium body, lively, very restrained oak, long, has the balance and clean but lush intensity to age well.

Semillon Mendoza Finca Roberto Azaretto 2013, Ricardo Santos Seleccion: green-tinged pale gold; toasty oak with a hint of roiboos mingle with waxy-wooly tinged slightly honeyed membrillo and meyers lemon fruit; medium body with some weight and grip, lowish but adequate acid, quite long, dry slightly woody finish. Intriguing and complex. Kalin Semillon fans, here is another wine for you!

That is pretty good cider, and a fun place to visit near Port Townsend.

What did you drink tonight? So dead here, it's either this or a cooling unit discussion. Please use this thread to commemorate your nightly tipple. No elaborate tasting note required, just tell us what you're drinking.

Us? 2010 Mongeared-Mugneret Vosne-Romanée, easy drinking Burgundy that covers all the bases. Sometimes it's leafy and high-toned, sometimes it's spicy and warm. Lovely wine but tough to justify at $45 USD.

Also open: 2010 Chateau du Hureau Saumur-Champigny "Tuffe" is a lean, herbal scented cabernet franc. Tremendous match with lamb and white bean chili. Raspberry fruit, beautiful stem tannin.

I luvs the Tuffe. Cheap and good.

Deja vu - didn't Kay just write this?

Maybe it's my OCD, or maybe I've just seen it done elsewhere, but you can have a "What Did You Drink This Week" thread, that - yes - repeats weekly. So you get all the good notes and things, but can scroll through it in a reasonable amount of time.

Anyway, not my call, just a friendly suggestion.

Pair of Anglore Tavels on successive fruit nights; hole-in-two or two holes-in-one.

2006 Domaine L'Anglore Tavel Rosé 14.5%
Cork stopper. Exotic and gorgeous aroma of strawberry cotton candy (in a good way; i.e., not candied), roses and cloves. Initially a bit thin, takes on body with food. Excellent balance, with no sign of the high alcohol. A beaut.

2007 Domaine L'Anglore Tavel Rosé 14.0%
Plastic stopper. Spectacular aroma, full blown strawberry with roses and spices. Lovely mouth feel, more serious than the previous. In no way oxidized, but seemingly more advanced, possibly because of the stopper. Light yeast flavor on the finish, not enough to disrupt the food embrace. Another beaut.

Actually, since this place runs like a fairly ruly mob, you could just start such a thread and see if it managed to replace this one. Whether it did or it didn't, you'd have your answer.

I have a certain fondness for this thread, but its length is getting unwieldy.

Well, this thread is Kay's baby, and I'm not a dingo, so I defer to her. I'd be willing to start a weekly thread if she agrees.

'Ruly mob' is good. We should do a dinner again before too much longer.

So, when it is not corked, it is very good. Savory nose, almost a touch of smoke. in the mouth, lighter essences of fresh red currents. Lean but not angry. Juicy and long. So much packed in to 12.5% abv.
Can't wait to have it with dinner, once the beans are ready!
