Sardinia

One of the problems with Dettori is that I believe he is difficult to work with and has switched distributors a few times. In the U.S. he wanted his prices to be much higher (doubled them in 2005), in line with what he thought were equal quality wines and when he did this his distributor could not sell the wines and ended up blowing them out dirt cheap and dropping him. I was lucky to buy a bunch and they have been stable but some have a little VA (which does not bother me to much.

I personally would be very happy/curious to try the Bianco with age on it, but then they are to my taste and possibly not to everybody's.

Andrea,

Dettori ? When did you actually get into hard liquor relinquishing your passion for wine ?

At our next meeting with Zul, we shall gladly relieve you of all of your '47 Borgogno stock.

i tasted the range once at Vinitaly. Some had a little VA and some had a lot, too much for me.

Oristano is a fine little town with a small center. Lots og fine local restaurants. Try to go to Trattoria da Gino one night. Very traditional, small restaurant. Only eight tables so it is a good idea to make a reservation, or the waiter will probably tell you to come back in half an hour. Craf is also a nice place to have both lunch and dinner. WIne-lists are pretty much the same all over every restaurant and a little boring. Oristano has one great wine bar - Temple Wine Bar that is pretty tucked away in a back alley and really hard to find without the adress. There is also a good wine shop - Dispensas that is not too far away. They can probably guide you to the wine bar if you don't find it.

Filo,

where did I say that I love Dettori wines? I just said, and confirm, that I would rather visit Dettori than Argiolas and that he, Giovanni Montisci and Sedilesu are great producers of big, rich Cannonau.
However you have to recognize that Dettori and Tenores, being as huge as they are, are much better balanced than Es or Kurni...

And keep ya paws off my Borgogno!!!

I have enjoyed the white quite a lot.

The reds have been hugely variable for me. When they are good, they are really good -- not unlike Cornelissen. I usually don't mind VA, but too many of the bottles tasted like rocket fuel.
