Anybody wanna play 'What would you order?'

at least it is in keeping with the whimsical layout of the wine list.

The '85 Tondonia might be interesting, if someone else is paying.

'99 Lanessan isn't a bad choice. Most of the other BDX is far too young.

Speaking of which, I was very amused to see that the wines are ordered by price within each category.

I suppose, it they're all the same to the person who wrote the list, one may as well choose on cost.

It's a shame they don't have a decent beer selection--it seems like the only part of the list that isn't marked up to laugh-out-loud levels. (The cocktail pricing on the other hand...wow)

If I had to order off of the list, I think I'd get the Drouhin Chablis or the Felluga Tocai for whites.

Of the reds, I think I'd pick the Monsanto Chianti or the Avignonese. I too, like Sangiovese with steak.

Also, it might be me, but I hate rewarding restaurants with absurd pricing and poor selection by splurging on a bottle, even if it appeals to me more (the Vilmart, for example).

As per wine-searcher retail on the Vilmart is $120, list is $190. Seems pretty good to me.

I should clarify-- I think the Vilmart is a good deal, but it's more that I'd rather not give them that much of my money. If I'm gonna spend that kind of dough on a wine, I'd rather reward a wine program that isn't awful.

Who is paying?

I really like sangiovese with steak, so:
Avignonese 2010
Tignanello 2010
OK, good if young, but why not the Monsanto then?

Look, any asshole can pick wines at Pearl and Ash, I like the challenge of a list like this.
Ha-hah, it's like the difference between running on a track and cross-country.

Thanks, Christian, Georg, and VLM. I've cherry-picked a few of your suggestions for my short list.

As to who's paying, it is dutch treat.

As to switching to Rouge Tomate, it can't be done at this time.

As to the tastes of the diners:
- Couple 1... She prefers sparkling above all else, he is a wino of the bigger-is-better school.
- Couple 2... My brother prefers red but will drink what I tell him to drink, his wife prefers off-dry whites and roses.
- Couple 3... My partner prefers off-dry whites and roses.

What we really need is a bottle of FRV100 and a good Barolo.
Two off-dry white fans points me in the Eroica Riesling or Corison Gewurz direction. Plus people who never think of Gewurz often surprise you with how much they like it.

I might go there just to drink the Vilmart at the bar.

I bet it is a 375.

I think the Vilmart would go with a rare steak.

Never seen a 375 of that wine. Vilmart Coeur in 375 would be fantastic.

You know, the Monsanto, for whatever reason, has never really done it for me. I've really liked Il Poggio, but a LONG time ago.
