Core Disorderly Discussion: TN's from Therapy

You need to be logged in to get searches to work. Just tried it both ways, and when I'm not logged in I get nothing. When logged in, I get hits.

I'm running Firefox 3.0.1 on RedHat, BTW, but I don't think there are browser issues here.

Oh yeah, lookee there. Nice work.

Of course, the whole thing could just disappear any day should, say, Robert stop paying the bills, or the Albanians get bored and/or enraged again. Which doesn't seem all that unlikely. So I don't think that even the few months of notes left there is a resource we can count on.

The real loss, of course, occurred when the database was hacked in the first place. I don't think that kind of a resource exists anywhere in the world now, which is a shame. But is it even replicable? Do people keep all their old notes/essays/reports? Were I to want to go back and look at, say, SFJoe's Loire report from 2002 again, does that still exist on a backup disk somewhere?

Yes, the loss of everything before is the downer.

I came to Wine Therapy post-crash and got to enjoy the late era, but 'fore Rome burnt? Lost in floating ashes.

Can't we count on the OCD nature of winegeeks, tho'?

OCD good. I used to save whole threads on Robin's board because that stuff would eventually go away forever. On Wine Asylum and on therapy I figured the info would always be around, so I saved very few whole threads (September 11th-related ones are all that come to mind). I've got all my own notes, obviously, but no ensuing discussions.

One possibility for bringing Therapy posts over: Therapy serves back HTML, which is what Disorder takes as input from posters. I just did a quick test where I cut everything from the HTML source of a Therapy post starting just after the body tag and ending just before the tag that ends the body. It displayed, Therapy color scheme and all. This was just a quick-and-dirty test, so I didn't cut out any of the links embedded in the page, so there was a lot of junk, but the text was all there. If someone is good with scripting languages, it probably wouldn't be too hard write code to strip the junk out while keeping the formatting as it was.

If folks are interested and don't object, I (or someone else) could put up an example test.

Brad, I just put up the first ten I saved. I've got about 30 more to go. If people object, I'll stop.

The things I do for you.

Looks good, Joe. Thanks.

Coad, you wanna give it a go since some folks like to read what you write and would like to search notes?

Well, most people who want to search my notes are quite content to do so on my website, but I'm always happy to do a Florida Jim. Right now I'm in the middle of a project, though, so maybe tomorrow afternoon I'll have time and put up some selected not-so-recent stuff.

I think we need to start a "Coad" chant which follows a slowly building clap...

I've got everything I've written/noted since I rejoined Therapy (2007? 2006?) on one of my sites. Before that, I'm pretty much beholden to the WLDG archive. There's nothing that's only on Therapy, though. But I'm not going to repost anything.

I know what you mean!

One thing I'd love to see reposted is John Bwood's TN on 2003 Chave. John?

Yeah, I'd like to see those notes too. I've been at logger-heads trying to decide whether I want to buy some or not, and if so, how many bottles, and whether I should buy mags, three liters or biblical sizes in addition to the usual 750s and cases of Marie-Jeannes. Besides, didn't Bwood prefer the blanc over the rouge in '03? John? Are you there?

-Eden (or maybe it was for Yann Chave that was the Chave to buy in 03)

Whoah. If Thor's holding out, then I am too.

What, I'm easier than Thor? I think not.
