Look's like the "at-rest" legislation won't rest: being introduced AGAIN by a LI State legislator soon (sorry, no link). Fight it for your right to choice please~!

Done. Submitted under the rubric "Consumer Protection":

Dear Senator Squadron:

It has recently come to my attention that an anti-consumer, pro-cartel bill has been reintroduced to the state house. The bill, S 3849 2013, is known as the "At Rest" legislation because it would require all wines and spirits sold in NY to "rest" in a NY-based warehouse for 24 hours.

Clearly, this bill serves no public function: the beverages are not improved by this "rest" nor is any safety concern ameliorated.

But the instigators of this bill - the two largest wholesalers in NY -- have a different motivation: they wish to drive their competitors out of business by having the Legislature raise the cost of doing business in NY.

I see no reason to abet their greedy, anti-competitive goal, and especially I see no reason to make the citizens of NY pay more for wine and spirits to do so.

If there is more help that I can provide in the effort to defeat this bill, please contact me at your convenience.

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely,

Jeff Grossman
Brooklyn, NY

Jeff, I assume you wrote this letter from Massachusetts. It will be rejected; you will need to resend it from New York, at least 24 hours after your arrival there.

I have yet to read an article which mentions what is to me the true underlying issue. Yes, we should oppose "at rest" laws in New York, and for all the good reasons mentioned. But the bigger picture is working to abolish ALL "at rest" laws in every state. THAT is the true way to level the playing field. I would like to see people rally to push this agenda.
