TN: A good Friday in the cellar (April 18, 2014)

More data from two weeks ago:

2002 Le Mont Sec was unusually advanced, all dark and caramel-apple-y.

2002 Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec was fresh as a daisy.

Confused by 15th century European maps, undoubtedly.

I meant 10th century, of course :-)

Of course. I'm still struggling with the idea that Lübeck is no longer the center of the Hanseatic League.

I have had separate bottles of 02 le Mont sec both from my own cellar, both bought from CSW at the same time, so presumably shipped at the same time, one that had already become appley and aged and another that was still pretty fresh. Peter Weygandt said it might be corks, which evidently can infect in ways other than TCA. I have no idea whether some form of cork infection mimics wine progeria or not, though.

At dinner tonight PMac said he has recently opened Huet 2002 Sec and Demi-Sec -- still wines, obviously -- and both were fine. This was confirmed by other (MA area) winos at the table.

Perhaps it was the NY shipment that was spoiled.

That's the whole issue with premox, a certain percentage of bottles are affected and there is now way to tell (without opening them - or Coravining them) which they are.

Seems fair to me. NY got the good Baumard, we got the crap. MA got the good Huet, you got the crap. even steven.

There's good Baumard? Regardless no way it's an even trade.

I've had plenty of good Baumard. Not recent vintages though.
