Huet 2002 wiki

I see little point in working out the negatives in my first version to show why I think my second sentence is a restatement of it. Let's just agree that the second version is what I meant and the contradiction you interpreted in my original message goes away. You may think that my claim is completely wrong, but if the 2002 pox rate is as high as 50% to 70%, and the numbers in question were not miniscule, I would be surprised if I were not right. I have been surprised before, of course. Nathan really could resolve this dispute, I expect. I'll just quote Gail, who was quoting someone else: the singular of data is not anecdotal.

Well, my last bottle of LHL demi-sec was fully oxidized. The cork came out a bit too easily and reminded me of a case of LHL sec that actually had loose corks (all the bottles). They were premoxed, of course, but there one could blame the closures.

This can also be a failure of the vacuum pump at the corking station on the bottling line. The corks themselves may be fine, but if the vacuum is not properly applied, they do not seal correctly and come out easily.

Two '02 Huets yesterday. One seemed a little advanced for its age (especially compared to the '96 we were drinking it with) but was still tasty on the palate. The other '02 was in a beautiful place. Notes below.

‘02 Huet Le Mont Sec: This seems advanced, with a strong sherry note on the nose and a very dark color; however, while there’s a little almond nuttiness on the palate, it is still lively with sharp acidity. Having a wine as fresh as the ‘96 with this wine probably did it no favors.

‘02 Huet Clos de Bourg: Moelleux 1er Trie: This was absolutely stunning. Notably less sherried and much fresher on the nose than the ‘02 Demi-Sec. Lively and complex on the palate with a wonderful balance of tertiary notes and receding white fruit and citrus flavors. The acidity is very much on point and makes the sweetness less pronounced (this drinks more like a demi-sec). Surpasses the ‘96 Le Mont Sec by a hair for Wine of the Day.

very good '02 petillant last night that was served as aperitif at "huet the early days" dinner with sarah hwang at chambers last night (talk to don rice about pre-ordering a copy of his booklet for the dinner).

I was a little worried about the color and an aloof nose, but on the palate there was immediate joy of nutty beeswaxy baked apple/pear complexity, with plenty of freshness and length, and a fine creamy texture. It was one of those calibration moments where the wine has plenty of aromatic components once on the palate, and teaches you how to smell it prior to subsequent sips.

One for the good guys

Glad it was very good, but probably was the least of the wines on display, given the rest of the lineup?!!
