Question for Oregon folk

I went to Syncline back in 2007; my impressions are that the wines were nice and honest, unspoofy. The winery is high above the gorge with fantastic views.

I've had a few Memaloose wines I tried on Brian Campbell's suggestion - i'm sure he can add more.
Pretty decent, and definitely not the stereotypical oak/extraction monsters.

I see Cor wines on the lists of some pretty good restaurants up here, but have not braved one as yet.

The Columbia Gorge is not really pinot noir country, although I think Syncline has one.
That thread will be all about the Willamette Valley, and I'll give it about 3 more posts before people start naming big, cali weight bruisers. The list in post #2 is pretty good although i'd add Teutonic and Bow and Arrow right up front.

Jay, I sent you half that list hours ago. Some of the other names have been mentioned but with some dissension. And who is Felthoven that we should listen to him?

Sorry, thought we were talking about Hood River. Most of those will be a good 2+ hours from there.
Shorter for the ones downtown, and even farther longer for the ones towards Eola-Amity.

Felthoven is just another Seattle area immigrant who likes Oregon pinot. I've met him a couple times, nice guy. He's just recreating a list that has been done many times over there.

I'm not a big Crowley, Drouhin, or Evening Land fan, and I've never had Walter Scott. I often enjoy Belle Pente, but to me they can certainly be a bit over blown in the hot years. You can probably say that about Cristom and a few others on that list too.

About 1 and 5, respectively.

Thanks for the insight. Crowley gets big tout for his chardonnay.

I don't follow domestic chardonnay much, even from Oregon. And if it's from Washington, run the other way. Most of the successful OR chardonnay i've tried has been from Cameron.

I have had only 1 Crowley chardonnay - 2009 WV. Heavy malo butter and more than a little oak.
Note 2009 was a warm vintage in Oregon. Not a horror show like 2006, or a total disaster like 2003, but pretty warm. I bought very little in the vintage.

Hood River's cool. I've had interesting wines from Syncline, particularly the sparkling, Domaine Pouillon, Phelp's Creek, and I've heard good things about Analemma but never tried. Make sure to plan time for hiking and whatnot. The wine's good, the beer is probably better overall, the scenery is incredibly beautiful. Enjoy.

Pfriem Family Brewers is probably my favorite brewery in Ore. next to Heater Allen. Great German and Belgium style beers.

Logsdon Farmhouse Ales is making real Saison style beer. The best producers of this style I've tasted from the states. Don't bring the Brett police with you.

Double Mountain is making your typical PacNW craft beer but doing it better than most. One of the only drinkable NW IPAs.

Across the river, Everybody's brewing is doing good work and has one of the best views in the Gorge.
