or maybe it was two nights ago. i forget.
la clarine mourvedre "cedarville" 2012
pure blackcurrant and blackcurrant leaf. very much like the 2010 vintage except this one had a creamy, dairy texture when first opened (it went away after 2 days). incredibly lively. 14.2% alcohol, but undetectably so. much better chilled. delicious.
ganevat "j'en veux" 2012
pale orangey-red, very mildly funky, strawberries everywhere. kept on getting better. wish i'd had the foresight to save a glass for the next day. also delicious.
markus altenburger, neuburger reserve 2012
on day 1, it was all wood wood wood. then it became much more delicate and honeyed. lean without being bony and unforgiving. slightly bitter in the finish.
graf v. schonborn, riesling spatlese trocken "hallburger schlossberg" 2005
seemed more developed than its vintage would suggest. petrol, but also plenty of papaya and musk melon. and a bit strange: smell of damp wool and wet chalk in the savennieres way AND the perfumeyness of one of those a-bit-too-floral edelzwickers. difficult to parse. but nice with some slightly charred lamb.
julien fremont "pur pom" 2009
a green calvados (i think—certainly very little wood or age). slightly rasping, unctuous in the glass, fresh, warm red apples in the nose, a slow burn on the way down.
越つかの酒造, "梅乃泉", junmai sake umeshu
vinous acidity from ume, a yeasty leesy nose. much lower sugar than is usual for sake, but works because of the rich aromatics from the sake. unusual, very delicious.
with a mixed grill from the kebab shop round the corner:
"i would like two lamb kebab sandwiches please."
"i give you mixed grill and pitta. you make yourself."
