Edmunds St. John 2009 Syrah "Wylie Vineyard" - Well, this has grown up a lot since the last time I drank one. At first, it's just young CA syrah, a little sweet. But I put half of it back in the fridge for a few days and it has come out all different: savory, very red-fruited (not black), gentle but noticeable umami, and a long salivatory finish. Thank you, Steve.

nice to hear; I haven't had one in a while. I foot-stamped all those grapes just to see what I'd get (pH was really low, and I figured stem inclusion would moderate that a bit, and make malo a little more of a certainty. It was in and out of old wood in a short hurry (maybe five months), and was pretty damn tannic going into bottle. I miss the vineyard, but the new owner got so wacky nobody could deal with her, and punting became the order of the day.
