Therapy

Rahsaan
I need therapy for my disorder. Or something like that.

I've come down with a massive cold, complete with throbbing headache and (most importantly) completely blocked nose, while visiting Rome.

Yesterday was my final dinner and I was at a lovely and delicious little place, Cesare al Casaletto, with an extremely tempting list. Recent releases from all sorts of 'cool' producers from around the country for prices in the teens or twenties. And then a few slightly older bottles like ar pe pe from 2001 and 2005 (one of which was Vigna Regina) for 41 euros, or 2008 and 2007 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano for 38 euros.

I arrived before my companion and sat perusing the list trying to concoct a logical reason why I should be ordering wine. But the pain was so intense that I could barely see straight, so there was really no justification. But it was tempting.

Oh well, I will live again to drink another day!

I' too picked up a headcold in London, though it waited for my return to manifest. Many sympathies, Rahsaan.

That is such a good restaurant. Hope you fell better soon.

Yes, I'm on the mend although I'm leaving Rome tonight and probably won't have wine again until later in the week. I actually perked up a bit towards the end of the meal thanks to some paracetamol from a pharmacy that was magically open on Sunday.

The night before I had a delicious meal (with wine) at L'Asino d'Oro, which I first heard about from one of your posts. It was good, my faculties were not yet diminished, and I have no complaints, but the wine list was nowhere near as exciting as at Cesare al Casaletto.

Nice to hear you enjoyed L'Asino D'Oro. But yes, a shame that his list isn't better. ( although it is much better now than it was at his first Roman location.)

Glad to hear Asino d'oro is still good, though I must admit I had beer when I was there. Sitting out on that street was really pleasant.

I don't know what it was like in the past or what the benchmark is. But for me it was just good, but hard to get excited about. Which may be all it is aiming for, although it was a bit heavy on the Anglo tourists (who am I to complain), sloppy on the service even at a point in the evening when they weren't that busy, and not tops on my list for a return visit.

Sure, it was just one dinner and all, but that's what I have to go on!

the owner and chef, Lucio Sforza, is a big, new Italian artisanal beer fan. However, I wouldn't think it is the best place for a vegetarian. The man is a master of wild boar dishes.
