2004 Giroflées

These were spectacularly beautiful on release. Then they went into an ugly phase; they tasted out of whack and corked. I can't say they have reclaimed their youth, but they have freshened up and reclaimed some of that early sweetness, which disappeared for awhile. They're getting to be compelling in a completely off-beat way, showing more varietal character. I have no clue where these are going.

I have had one bad bottle and one good bottle in recent weeks. Huh, now I forget if the bad bottle was corked or oxidized - I think the latter. The good bottle was very good indeed, richly flavoured, and for me nothing off-beat about it. In a good bottle I would say the wine itself is coming along very nicely.
