TN: Some brief TNs

A few short snaps from recent days:

2010 Closel Clos du Papillon Savennieres is in a great place right now. Plump, easy and ready for action, at least this bottle was. Held up great for several days and fit well with many dishes. If you need a truly satisfying Savennieres fix this is a good place to go.

2012 Domaine Montanet-Thoden Bourgogne Vezelay - lightly honied chardonnay fruit. Not too ripe, delicious, fresh with a lingering finish.

2006 Drouhin Chablis "Les Clos" is texturally astounding. Subtle wine that brings pollen and wet sidewalk to mind, on the palate it is so lovely. Pretty good chardonnay for $50.

2009 Chateau Moulin Fronsac - very merlot, very Fronsac, gravel and iron, just a hint of plum. Honest red wine.

2013 Clos Roche Blanche Pif is also honest red wine. So easy to drink, with that mineral streak that quietly screams C-R-B. Also opened a 2013 Gamay which was a bit volatile at first but fell in line after a day to become the direct conduit of terroir we all know and love. Hold for a while.

It's bitter sweet drinking these wines and realizing that the regime here is coming to a close. Clos Roche Blanche has been so important to me over the years, truly an inspiration and key to my understanding of what good wine really can be. Cheers to Catherine and Didier.

Best,
Kay

Can you explain more about this whole "the regime here is coming to a close" thing?

There's no controversy or anything, Didier is going to retire soon. Or soonish, I guess, as this has been alleged for a few vintages.

The end is nigh and I know exactly what you mean. These wines and visiting them made me think about wine and especially viticulture in a different way. I've heard that they've found a good young person to take the reins a la Remy Branger for Marc.

No progeny?

Could always get sold to other people, too.
