Lunar Eclipse

If an eclipse occurs when everyone (including the mouse) is sleeping, does it really take place except in dreams?

Lunar EclipseAnyone been watching?

I first saw it in the first 10 minutes of the lagging penumbral stage. Sorry to have missed the total eclipse by such a short interval.

I stayed up fairly late watching the Gints clinch, but life intervened and I had to get myself abed. Was it a blood moon?

Yes, it was. It's actually the second of a tetrad. The remaining dates are April 4 and September 28 (of 2015).

Will you remind us when they come around again? I tend to lose track of this stuff.

April 4 is the next blood moon (full lunar eclipse). Alas, it will not be visible on the East Coast of the US because the moon will have already set. However, folks west of us (and many around the globe) can see it... handy chart here.

Reminder: Tonight is the fourth of the tetrad. The media refer to it as "super blood moon", which is a bit spoofy. It is a full moon and it will be reddish because there is an eclipse (lunar eclipses only go reddish, they don't wink out).

Starts in about an hour on the East coast, slightly different elsewhere.
