Chicago Remembers SFJoe (9/20)

Yes, thank you for writing this up Prof. I tried to post something a few times, but just couldn't find the words. Thank you to Mark and Josefa for opening their house to us and to the other guys for the wines and adding on to evening. It was something special. I was I could've held on to the night for longer, but it seemed to have flown by in double-time. Try as I might to get Sharon to come out for this, she had to settle for this pic I sent her of the Prof and myself. To Joe and to food and wine bringing people together.

I regret never having the opportunity to meet Joe in person. Having read his thoughts on wine for a number of years now, he was, without a doubt, one of the most passionate, intelligent, and encyclopedic individuals in our humble little world of wine.

Big thanks to our hosts Josefa and Mark. Also, thanks to Lars, Phil, Nathan, and Mark for providing awesome food and wine. There were tears, many bottles of wine, and many more stories about Joe. He had been this giant of the wine world for me and I came away having learned so much more about who he was as a person. I feel good about that.

As for the wines, there were many highlights;

04 Briords was great with time, Allemand was a treat, the Overnoys both showed very nicely, 02 Rougeard was great as expected.

Actually, Joe tasted the Grenache Blanc in barrel earlier this year. He said "Hmmmm. I might actually like Grenache Blanc after all....it normally turns my stomach." I took that as high praise. Or he was being nice....I'll never know now.
