Kill the "what did you drink tonight" and "save the 'what did you drink tonight'" threads.

We had 4 bottles of the 2011 Pif last night. It's nice now.

Convince me.

Yes, my last bottle convinced me to put it away for 10 years.

I was asked at an interview what a deadlock was.

I said it was standing in your cellar and trying to decide whether to open 11 or 10 Pif.

Good answer, I was told.

How many DBAs does it take to change a light bulb?

Two. One to change the bulb and one to stand nearby and make certain no one else tries to change the bulb at the same time.

Is the old vine Cot going into this now? It sort of tastes that way and I haven't seen an all Cot bottling in a while.
And all the cabernets too? It's been a few years since I saw a Cabernet bottling.

I just did a world wide wine-searcher search and the last vintage of Cot that turned up was 2009. Did you know they bottled it in magnum? Why didn't I see any of those in the US? Almost worth a trip to Belgium.

No Cabernet came up.

The other night I had a lovely bottle of 2010 Luis Pato Beiras Baga VV. After a modest investigation into the area 6 or 7 years ago, I haven't had many Portuguese wines in recent years. But I was happy to see this on a list at a restaurant where I knew the rest of the crowd would not go for the sour racy wines I might have chosen and I was trying to avoid something Too Big.

Anyway, this was great, dark, ample (for me at least), but fresh and lovely to drink from the beginning. Not sure how it might have developed with air? (We finished it too quickly)

Another standout from the weekend was the Haw River Regent's Rye Tripel. Not sure if that is even relevant for non-NC folks, but I loved the layered texture and flavors.

but, i enjoyed your loire valley pics and the art gallery pics. truly.

Yea, verily.

So, why all the hate on fotos?

Perhaps a case could be made for standalone photo-essays on a variety of subjects (was it Slaton who used to post delightfully wry photo-essays on the flyover everyday? I miss those), it's the TN threads that can get weighed down by pictures of wine labels, unreliable pictures of wine colors, and pictures of jeeb participants in different states of bleary-eyed dissipation. Perhaps exceptions could be made for those of people giving the finger, those that register an Aloha pattern, and those of young ladies kissing to scandalize the assembled. Just as we avoid smileys because folks are held to a higher grammatical standard, and should deploy irony and humor in a manner that is clear enough without crutches, documentary pictures are, to me, to be avoided for a similar reason. Would they help a Coad chronicle? Maybe there is a reason why illustrated books are mostly for children.

I think you mean Putnam Weekly's threads. Full of photos and great.

Aha! thanks. I randomly came here looking for notes on 2007 Bernard Machado Pinot Noir.

I'm helping on a new wine list, so maybe photos again soon. I'll have lots of questions.

Good news! As mentioned above, your posts are full of great.

Is this the right thread to post what everyone is drinking on Don Rice & Jeff Connell double birthday? 07 Baudry Domaine (young) and 02 Breton Perrieres (perfect) here.

2005 Nigl (Piri) Private Riesling (screwcap)
Lovely minerally nose with undertones of yellow plum. Slate on the palate, delicious!
Still young but in a very good place.

2006 Fourrier MSD Clos Solon
Beautiful nose, delicate velvet feet on the palate. Another delicious wine and a 2006 that hasn't shut down yet.
