2006 Charvin, a non-tasting note

Not so particularly, but since I got a great price on it I decided to buy a full case of it, so, yeah, you could say I'm invested in its outcome. That, and the crinkly red fruits from the under-ripe year give me good reasons for hope.

Hello,
2008 wasn't under-ripe for Charvin Cdp's. It was ripe. Try a bootle : it's ripe grappes.
Best regards

I think he meant less ripe than other vintages. The 08 reminds me of the 04. Like the 04, it showcases the minerally, earthy spicy side of Charvin. It is still CdP, though, and I expect the Jay Millers of the world still will not like it.

Well, not some of them.

Jay, who may chime in, took one taste of the 06 some time ago and immediately poured the rest into the pour bucket on the table. So if you liked it, you are officially not one of the Jay Millers of the world.

Of course it's "ripe", otherwise it wouldn't be good CdP! I'm talking about the vintage being less-than-spectacular (which is fine by me) ripeness as in 2007 and 2009, both of which I am not a fan of. And I have had a bottle. The Professor is coorect: it does remind me of the 2004 which I've liked immensely and has aged well to boot.

Last saturday, another Charvin 2003 was tremendous with a roasted grouse. The big vintage was balanced by the power of the grouse.

thanks pab.

grouses are fingerbanging good. powerful flavours, and yet they know how to behave in the back of teh cab.

takes me back to times long long ago.
