CULINARY DELIGHTS

fuck yeah!

or, to put it another way:

teh fevre 09s is so bad that they regularly serve them in teh in ba f lounges at lhr. i've tried several, but tbh, i can't put that shit in my mouth even when it is free.

sauzet has turned a fine history into such a joke that i was taken aback when teh shabby commercial mmpfh of this particular wine was shown to me. no, really, uh. wtf?

and peby faugeres is your liver, not mine. i guess it made teh 03 traptet seem fine?

but - wait a moment: i haven't tased much michel gros since they got all techmological and lost their way in teh late 80s-early 90s. i had my reasons then, but surely there is always teh hope that a crorner has been truned...

so, please, post some more detailed comments. shit we can learn from.

i'm sure that this thread has teh potential to abound with teh interest.

Richard, etal, here you go...

WINES:

Domaine William Fevre Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru '10 -- Yellow straw, fleeting citrus and apple scents, some creaminess, racy texture, all the right elements, citrus fruits, peaches, fairly tightly knit, youthful and holding well so no rush. [E]

Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru '09 -- Medium yellow, nice aromatics, some spice, good fruit to offset the acidity, medium weight, balance, not a big wine, drinking well nearterm. [VG - E]

Domaine Michel Gros Vosne-Romanee Aux Brulees 1er Cru '05 -- Deep dark red, smoky accents, some oak, black fruits, broad-shouldered, jammy profile, still tightly knit, some silkiness, thick fruit, needs time and mellowing. [VG - E]

Domaine Jean Jean-Louis Trapet Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 03 -- Dark red, effusive bouquet, earth and spice, dark cherries/berries, perhaps a tad brittle/attenuated but all the right elements in balance, ample fruit showing well. [E]

Chateau Faugeres Peby '05 -- Dark red, classic scents, tobacco, leather, blackberries, large profile, firm tannins, thick core of fruit, brutish strength in a polite way, young perhaps even exotic, some people really liked this wine. [VG - E]

Emilio Lustau Amontillado Sherry Los Arcos Solera Reserva NV -- Golden, reserved bouquet, some nuttiness, salty nuances, dry profile, a bit simplistic, medium alcohol, fair richness, could have more personality. [VG]

Niepoort Porto '83 -- Dark red, complex bouquet, cherries, berries, chocolate, etc.??, likewise on the palate, quite approachable and elegant and refined, flavorful, nimble rather than ponderous, probably at its peak and will remain there. [E]

was teh fevre fourchaume 09 or 10? there is a mismatch between teh menu and your note.

Richard, Good catch!

The menu said '09 and I was the person who noticed they were pouring the '10...much to the wine steward's chagrin.

We drank the '10.

based on my unfortunate exposure to teh 09s, it is better that the chagrin was with you, and not with teh dude in charge of teh wine.
