Overnoy gets the Gentaz/Truchot Treatment

Disorderlies know that Overnoy/Houillon has become a unicorn wine in the States, with long time fans duking it out with Jura and rarity arrivistes for the few bottles that LDM brings in. I suppose it was therefore only a matter of time before bottles started showing up at auction, at very high prices. It's not exactly like Gentaz or Truchot, because these are recent releases and Manu's a young man, who hopefully will make many more vintages.

Anyway, these bottles are on WineBid, with current bids (auction ends Sunday):

2010 Chardonnay: $170-205

2011 Ploussard: $145-230

2005 Savagnin: $210

1999 Savagnin 500ml: $200

I won't be selling my bottles, but I also won't be buying any of these. Sad to see this wine become a status symbol. Can't folks just focus on paying $2,400 for a bottle of Pappy 23 instead?
 
I began buying Overnoy when the Poulsards were like $20-25 a bottle. I remember being offered only two bottles of the 05 for something like $35. I bought those, but stopped the next year when the price doubled. I'm happy I bought what I did and not sorry I stopped. I'm sure Puffeney will be next. And I'll have to settle for Domaine de la Pinte. This has been the direction with any number of wines. I'm just happy to have ever been able to have had them.

Loreline is great and I like the wines, although I believe their output is miniscule.
 
If only Dressner were alive to see these prices. I remember his dream of being able to price his Muscadet at the same levels as Long Island Chardonnay.

I think we definitely need to get a comment from Yaniger.

Stuart lives in a part of the country that no airline cares to fly over. Some how he has lost his interest in wine. I attribute it to his streak of conservatism, which eventually rots your brain.

I think you've forgotten that he's moved about an hour north of Chicago.

Lou, judging from his occasional comments on FB, he hasn't lost his interest in wine so much as he's lost his interesting talking about it on teh Interwebz.
