WINES:
M. Chapoutier Hermitage Blanc Chante Alouette '07 -- Light gold yellow, explosive aromas of generous fruits, maybe floral notes, complex, viscous mouth feel, lush and full, ample acid, a bit oily in a good way, co-wine of the night. [E]
Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru '09 -- Medium yellow, big piercing nose, honey, light vanilla, some toastiness, some unevenness, toastiness also on the palate, atypical almost Meursault-like, better with food. [NR]
Domaine de Montille Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru '09 En Magnum -- Dark red, complex ripe red fruits, earth, effusive bouquet, good structure and purity and focus, finesseful tannins, lovely jammy nuance, nimble, my wine of the night. [E]
Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select '01 -- Inky red, damp dark fruits, tar, smoke, very big profile, quite jammy, black currants and blueberries, a bit rough (ponderous?), lots of muscle, complex, just not my cup of tea (wine). [NR]
Chateau Lafite Rothschild '96 -- Dark red, herbal/earthy notes, cigar box, black/blue berries, subtle power, core of dark fruits, fine tannins, dense, rather unforthcoming, hard wine to grasp (from this bottle, at least). [E?]
Chateau Climens '90 -- Golden yellow, good intensity in complex bouquet, oranges, butterscotch, liquid gold on palate, acid lends agility, deep flavors, balance, apricots, bold persona with elegance, stunning and might rival the Yquem '90 if tasted alongside. [E - O]
