What did you get only a taste of tonight?

I dropped by an excellent local retailer on the way home last night and got to try a few interesting wines. The 2013 Weingut Knauß Trollinger was delightfully gluggable, with mouth-watering tart red fruit that makes it hard to stop drinking. I'm looking forward to trying the Without All bottling.

A serious change of pace came from the 2011 Etienne Bécheras (Le Prieuré d'Arras) St. Joseph Blanc, with rich texture and tasting of pure butterscotch and a little spice, it is a terrific white for a cold winter night.

The 2011 Jean-Paul Thevenet Morgon Vieilles Vignes is tight and brooding, with dark fruit, leather, and a little spice wrapped in a sheath of tannin. It became markedly less surly with air, but could still use time.

Domaine de la Pint Arbois Poulsard, 2011. Further evidence that should an alternative be needed to the pricey stuff, this will do. Balanced, lovely drinking.

1975 Ridge Geyserville - Absolutely lovely. I wouldn't have aged this particular bottle another minute. It was right on the money. The fellow who brought it (someone I've known casually for a number of years) said he has around 1000 bottles of Ridge from the '70s decade.
